Upon your arrival in Lima, the capital of Peru, you’ll be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. This first day is ideal for resting after your trip or, if you’re feeling energized, heading out to explore the Miraflores district, enjoy Peruvian cuisine, or take a walk through the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco.

DAY 2: Flight to Cusco and Acclimatization

Description:

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred from your hotel to the airport for a short flight to Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. Upon arrival, you’ll be taken to your hotel to settle in and begin acclimatizing to the 3,400 meters (11,150 ft) above sea level. The afternoon is free for light activities such as trying a coca tea, visiting the San Pedro market, or strolling through the colonial-style historic center.

DAY 3: Sacred Valley of the Incas Tour

• Visit to Pisac ruins and artisan market

• Visit to the Ollantaytambo archaeological complex

• Optional stop in Chinchero (depending on time and conditions)

Description:

After breakfast, you’ll head to the Sacred Valley to explore the Pisac ruins, known for their panoramic views and agricultural terraces. You’ll then visit the town’s artisan market, perfect for traditional souvenirs. After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll explore the impressive Ollantaytambo archaeological site, a key Inca fortress. On the way back to Cusco, a visit to Chinchero may be included if time and conditions allow.

DAY 4: Train to Aguas Calientes + Machu Picchu Tour

Description:

In the morning, you’ll board the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, a bus will take you up to the entrance of the citadel, where you’ll enjoy a guided tour (approx. 2.5 hours) along one of the official visitor routes. After the tour, return by bus to Aguas Calientes. Following lunch, you’ll have free time to explore the town or relax.

DAY 5: Return Train to Cusco – Overnight in Cusco

• Return by Expedition train to Cusco

• Transfer and accommodation in Cusco

Description:

After breakfast, you’ll board the Expedition train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, you’ll continue by bus to your hotel in Cusco. The rest of the day is free for you to relax after the incredible experience of visiting Machu Picchu.
